Why should I Keep up with the Joneses?
According to Wikipedia Keeping up with the Joneses refers to ‘the comparison to one's neighbour as a benchmark for social class or the accumulation of material goods. To fail to "keep up with the Joneses" is perceived as demonstrating socio-economic or cultural inferiority.
Since the age of about 6 I have agonisingly compared myself to others. In how I look, in my career choices, to ‘friends’, my status, house and as a parent. It has taken me a long time to realise trying to keep up with anyone or their perception of who I am is exhausting and pointless!!
2020 marked our 10-year wedding anniversary. Ten years since being a Jones and I am proud to be getting fitter, stronger and happier with Chris.
2020 was also a year when we found ‘zoom,’ ‘furlough’ and ‘time’. A year when the world found the strength to shout loud that Black lives matter. A year when women showed up for each other. A year when those in public services were cheered from the streets every Thursday evening. A year of finding positives and giving back to each other, challenging ourselves for change.
This culmination of breaking down the inferiority barriers along with looking within to become stronger was enough for us to find the confidence to run online home workouts for friends along with socially distanced, masked personal training for people that wanted a release from the COVID pressures.
We launched our Fitness Community for all to join. For people that are not trying to keep up with anyone. They are not benchmarking their culture, sex, bank balance or abs! They are prioritising their own health and happiness.
We mock the idiom and welcome you all to Keep up with the Joneses.
