How to guide for Home Workouts!
You have your matt. You’ve downloaded the YouTube app. And you’ve dug out your lycra. You are ready!!!
You log onto a workout and immediately start pushing the endorphins with a hefty high knee.
Three minutes in you feel a niggle in the knee, the kids are asking for cheese strings and you’re starting to feel slightly faint. “I can’t do this!” you say to yourself and… Wallop! Your inner demons are laughing and you come to a negative halt.
Here are our four tips to beat the demons and find success when working out at home:
PLAN: Find the session you want to do; sign up to the Zoom; add it to your calendar – block it out in your outlook. Learn to organise your workout time like you would work, school runs, food shopping or dentist appointments.
BE READY: Put your kit at the end of the bed. Roll out the matt and dust off the dumbbells. Fill your water bottle and put it in the fridge. Download the running podcast. Set a phone notification. Whatever you physically need to be able to complete the workout – lay it out. It’s a visual reminder!!
ENLIST A BUDDY: Get a friend to join you on a run/walk. Go to a class together or urge each other to sign up for a new sport. Listen to a podcast or interview whilst you exercise – the familiarity of a voice makes you feel you are not alone and can really spur you on.
BE KIND TO YOURSELF: Physically you do need to warm up and stretch before and after exercise. Whenever Chris and I have jumped straight into exercise we always end up in some kind of pain! Small twinges can lead to giant injuries so be kind to your body. Mentally, give yourself a pep talk. Be kind to yourself and celebrate little wins. You should always be your own biggest supporter 😊
Our monthly Core Blimey online workouts includes a warm-up and stretch down at every workout. We will help you plan with dedicated Zoom links and WhatsApp reminders.
